What does your wedding scent say about you?

Happy Thursday-it’s-almost-Friday-y’all!

Today’s post is aimed at all of you future Mrs. to be. I still have few wedding related post ideas floating in my head, however now that I am the aul ball-and-chain I don’t think I should be setting up a complete separate wedding section. This well will dry soon and that will then just be useless.

Choosing your wedding perfume can be quite a big decision despite what some people say. Some brides don’t put a lot of thought into it and are quite happy to use their day-to day perfume and that is OK too. For me, I knew I wanted something special; something that will be just for that day; unique; powerful and will forever remind me of our special day whenever I sense it.

My usual choice of perfume for daytime would be Viktor & Rolf Flower Bomb; Paco Robanne – Olympea or Victoria’s Secret Bombshell (how apt!). If you are familiar with any of the above, you will know these are strong, lasting scents however they are quite feminine and subtle at the same time.

One thing I can guarantee you is that you will never, ever, EVER feel the way you felt on your wedding day ever again. It is the most magical feeling – all eyes are on you, you feel more beautiful than you have ever before with perfect hair, make-up, tan, nails & a dress that makes you feel like a BOMBSHELL. Do you now understand why perfume is so important? It’s like putting your personal stamp on the day.

Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent

I am not a big fan of change when it comes to my beauty regime; skin routine and my choice of perfume. I didn’t know where to begin my journey for search of the scent; however I found that with your wedding day perfume it’s like with your wedding dress: When you know it’s the one – it’s THE one.

Surprisingly it only took me one trip to Boots in Liffey Valley to find my scent. I remember the store clerk was more interested in talking to his colleague about how unhappy he was in his job (!) than in serving us and I was getting really irritated. For those who aren’t familiar with Boots layout all perfumes are stored in glass cases and you can’t try them without assistance (well, not the expensive ones).

I didn’t have a brand in mind, and quite frankly I didn’t know where to begin to break my routine. All I knew is I wanted perfume that will make me feel strong and super confident: like a Goddess. I can’t quite remember what other scents I tried however it didn’t take long until I came across Black Opium. It had only been recently launched and it smelled divine. It’s everything I searched for in a scent – glam, powerful and tantalizing.

I instantly fell in love with it and had to have it. It’s not cheap, 30ml retails for approx. €60.00 & 50ml retails for approx. €80.00 however it’s definitely worth it. It comes in a black little bottle with a see-through circle in the middle and the bottle looks every bit of glam and full of secrets.

I couldn’t wait to crack that baby open and use it but I stayed strong and saved it for our big day and I don’t regret it one bit. It will remind me of what I felt at my most beautiful moment in life.

It’s funny as to this day I have been stopped on number of occasions by strangers asking me about my scent. I obviously have been using it since the wedding and people love it! Perfumes have a way of making you feel things. Don’t be afraid to be fussy and take your time as it’s the most important day in your life and you want only to remember the best. You will never ever look & feel like that again (well, until your second marriage haha!)

I hope you enjoyed this little heart-to-heart post. Let me know in the comments below what scent did you pick for your wedding day?
